Tamil video translator

Upload a video of up to 5 minutes, pick தமிழ் (Tamil), and get it back as a lip-synced Tamil video or a Tamil audio track. Whatever language the original is spoken in is detected automatically.

Who watches in Tamil

Tamil is written in its own Tamil script and is the language of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. It is also an official language of Sri Lanka and Singapore, and Tamil communities in Malaysia, Canada and the UK keep it as a home language. In 2004 it became the first language India declared a classical language. A Tamil version opens a video to all of these viewers, many of whom would rather watch in Tamil than in English or Hindi.

Spoken Tamil is not written Tamil

Tamil has a wide gap between its formal written form and the way people talk. Written Tamil read aloud sounds like a news bulletin or a textbook, while a YouTube dub should sound like speech: “I am going” is written போகிறேன் but usually said போறேன். When you read the Tamil text on the result, check that it reads like something a person would say.

நீங்கள், English words and long words

Creators address viewers as நீங்கள், the respectful you, rather than நீ. Spoken Tamil also takes in English words freely, especially for technology, money and everyday objects, so coining a pure-Tamil word for every term can sound forced. Tamil words get long because suffixes stack onto the root, and the translation step is asked to keep roughly the same spoken length as the original so the Tamil fits the video’s timing.

Choose how the Tamil comes back

Lip-synced video uses Sync Lipsync 2 to match the mouth to the Tamil audio, voiced by ElevenLabs v3 or by a clone of the original speaker’s voice made from the video. Audio track only skips the lip-sync and costs less: add it to your YouTube video as a Tamil audio track, so one upload serves both audiences.

Questions

Will it sound like Chennai Tamil or Sri Lankan Tamil?
There is one Tamil option and no dialect setting. Have a Tamil speaker from your audience listen before you publish.
How is a Tamil dub priced?
Per started minute of video, for videos up to 5 minutes. Cloning your voice adds one minute; audio track only is cheaper per minute. You see the exact credits and your balance before you start.
Can I dub a Telugu or Hindi video into Tamil?
Yes. The transcription step detects the spoken language, so the source does not have to be English.
